Vanessa Zinke Photography

This is a completely selfish post for I am merely trying to spread the word about this photographer. She currently lives in Vermont and will possibly be coming to Utah in August for work. She just needs to book 10 sessions in the next 20 days.
So please book with her. I adore her style. Her photos are classic and timeless. Oh, her name? Vanessa Zinke. And I think the world of her.
Did I mention I was utterly bias and she is actually one of my great friends that I plan on holding onto for life? Like I said, this post is completely selfish.

Our Adventures Last Weekend

Note to viewer: The pictures are completely out of order.
Please find the caption to the respective picture below it.

Note to self: Load pictures in reverse order.
After moving four pictures to the beginning, you gave up on chronological order.

I know we all lead busy lives so I am a big fan of pictures on blogs. Last weekend, our family friend Kathie visited from Jacksonville, Florida (where I was born and raised until high school). We decided to show her Utah and all its beauty. Enjoy the shots below because we had a great time and the sights were actually that beautiful!

I offered, but Sean carried our son the entire time in the pack.

Still Bryce.

Hoodoos in Bryce.

Just one of the hundreds of photos from Bryce.

The entrance to Bryce actually had a tripod stand to get a group shot. Impressive.

We thought there should be at least one picture in our camera with me.

Since this is often how I look.

A Play Day

I do not care that we played with every toy in the house. I do not care that I could not see my carpet in some spots.
I was gone for five days. Monday was a play day.

Maybe if you are lucky, he will send you some too.

The Offspring

Dexter in the middle and Noodles on the front right are almost 45.  They have been rocking for almost 25 years.  As Tanya would say, 'That's hot.'

Almost six years ago, Sean and I went on our first date to the Offspring concert in downtown Salt Lake.  The nightclub that hosted the alternative rock group has since burned down, but no worries our relationship is still going strong.  In March, we learned they were touring again with no stops in SLC but making a stop in Vegas.  It was simple.  The tickets went on-sale we bought two.  Then almost three weeks later, a local radio station announced their summer rock festival with the Offspring head lining it.  The SLC concert was scheduled on Friday with the Vegas show scheduled on Saturday.  It was simple, again.  The tickets went on-sale we bought two…thinking we could sell the Vegas tickets.

The classic holding-the-camera shot after the show.  Just look at those smiles.

Fast forward to Thursday before the show, we still have two sets of Offspring tickets.  Luckily, we sold the SLC tickets in record time (like 6 hours after posting on craigslist) and ended up breaking up even.  So Saturday afternoon, we cruised down to Vegas to attend the Offspring show in the Peal Theater at the Palms.  AMAZING venue, AMAZING acoustics, AMAZING band.  Our less-than-24-hours trip was …um, amazing.

The next morning, before heading home, we dined at Paris’ Mon Ami Gabi.  We were looking for something new and different for breakfast, so this french bistro was perfect.  Once you have seen our plates, you may want to wipe the drool off the screen.

Anyone who knows Sean knows he did not eat those tomatoes.  Anyone who knows me knows that I gobbled them up.

My berries-and-cream crepes.  Yes, it was a divine experience.

In case you were worried about Gavin, he was playing with Grandma Forbes the whole time at home.

Apparently I'm young again!

Whew!  I was worried for a little bit.  In our church, we have an amazing youth program and I am asked to serve with the 14-15 year old girls in a class called the Miamaids.  I love it, and highly recommend it.  Or at least I highly recommend my Miamaids.  They are phenomenal.  Yesterday one of these said Miamaids and I went on a bike ride down the mountain to the local gas station for an ice cream treat.  While I was waiting for her to find her shoes, the grandfather asked if I was excited for school to get out for the summer.  Wait?!?  He thought I was his daughter's age and still in school.  Wahoo!!  I wanted to kiss him right there and walk away knowing that I am still young.  Instead, I smiled and said that I was one of the leaders.  He commented how the leaders keep getting younger every year.  What a sweet man.

Speaking of age and my Miamaids...we watched a movie over at my house on Wednesday night for our activity.  It was the end of school, no more finals, and the beginning of summer.  We decided to watch 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun' with Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt.  Granted this movie was made in 1985, so we laughed during the WHOLE movie.  I highly recommend watching this movie and if you happen to have six 14-15 year olds around it will be even better. One of my girls even commented how 'I wear some of those clothes today.'   True, fashion recycles.

Apparently I am old!

Did you know what this device was called before reading the name at the bottom of the device?  If you do, apparently you are not that young anymore.  Yesterday I was reading over a camp packing list for our church's girls' camp and a cassette player was listed as one of the items prohibited.  Of course, this followed iPod, Zune, and every other MP3 player.  One of my 15 year olds looked over at me, and very innocently asked 'What's a cassette player?'  It took me several moments to answer for my aging brain was trying to form the description into words.  Apparently I am no longer the young generation and technology of my time is already being forgotten.  Dang it!

Salt Lake City Half Marathon

I did it once again.  13.1 MILES OF RUNNING.  And oh, the rush I felt.  I will be the first to admit I did not train for this race like I have trained in years past.  Training with one child is hard. I cannot imagine how mothers train with more than one child.  And yet, I surprised Sean and most of all myself.  Despite the lack of training this round, I finished only a handful of minutes behind my best time ever.  And that best time was after a season of excellent training.  I am so proud and grateful for my body.

Around mile 10, I glanced at the timer and realized I was making excellent time.  Or at least a lot better than I anticipated.  I was doing so well that I panicked that my boys would not be at the finish line.  But sure enough like the amazing men (and toddler) that they are, I saw them waving and cheering me on.  Sean was standing in the spot we discussed I would look for them and Gavin flashed his toothless smile at me.  Talk about EMOTIONAL.  I teared up as I ran the last 50 yards to the finish.  Sean and Gavin just melted my heart being my biggest supporters.  Sean was blown away at my success and that made me feel HOT!

Running is a mental sport.  And my body proved that theory today.

Why we have friends

This is what friends are for.  Thanks Tanya!  You made my day posting your picture from 1994 too.  Oh and whenever we find my jeweled hat, I will send it over to your husband.
