Doctor's Disappointment

Before I went into the doctors yesterday, I had several budding questions like the position of the kid, his current size, target due date, etc. I am getting quite eager for this boy to get here since Sean and I are prepping his room almost nightly now. So far we have had lots of fun trying all the lotions out and clipping the tags off the tiny, tiny clothes. Plus we figure we better paint sooner rather than later so the fumes do not harm him. Off topic, sorry!

Running a little late for the appointment, I was not too worried since doctors never see you on time anyway. But to my surprise the parking lot was empty except for a couple cars. This should have been my first inclination. I proceeded to check-in while the nurses behind the counter smile cheerfully. After telling them my name and my appointment time, they ask if I was a call-in appointment. Meaning the doctor was on-call today and not scheduled to see any patients, therefore any appointments would have been those called in only hours before. I pulled out my appointment card from their office and handed it over. Sure enough, I was correct on the date and time with no doctor to see. They frantically checked their scheduling and saw that the doctor’s on-call day was switched and I was never notified! (My friend Melanee brings up a good point that I should have charge them a cancellation fee at that point.) So here I was eager with budding questions, and no doctor to answer them. The nurses, after going to the back, say the R.N. in the office today could squeeze me in. Two things: 1) if I did not want a doctor, I would have stayed with the midwives in the first place! and 2) do not ever agree to being squeezed in since they never go well.

You probably can imagine the rest of the visit…waiting forever to see the R.N., not getting my questions answers, completely wasting my time, etc. And to top off the visit, she proceeds to tell me that it looks like I am registering at 33 ½ weeks. No matter since I discounted the whole experience a complete waste.

After checking-out and setting my next appointment, I sassed the Frontdesk girls making sure I saw the doctor next time. Topping off the experience, my next appointment is April 30th (two weeks and my birthday) and I will be receiving a cervix and uterus examine which will finally answer all my budding questions. Com’ on April 30th? Yahoo for womanly exams on your birthday!! I might as well consider the day a scratch.

To end my story, I proceeded to get into the car and sob over the phone to sweet Sean. He listened, which was nice, while I explained my frustration and disappointment. I just needed to get the story out. Sean explained that I should demand to see the doctor again this week since they rudely did not call the first time to move my appointment. I explained that it would require me leaving work early again which I hate doing. Also apparently, doctors do not check positioning and sizing until your 36th week anyway. It would be pointless then to return today or tomorrow only to be told to wait until 36 weeks for that check. BTW I hit 34 weeks today!

Ending on a cheery note for this post, I went to the grocery store after the disaster appointment (that’s not the cheery part). This means tonight I can make my favorite snack-4 layer dip! Refried beans, cheese, tomatoes, and more tomatoes. I even bought blue corn chips as a variety. Yahoo!!

Oh boy Kristen...I'm so sorry. That sounds like one rough day. Just keep hanging in there, you're almost there.
Love, Mandy

It never ceases to amaze me how many unreliable people there are in this world. I'm sorry you had to deal with that. Even though you will have to deal with the appointment on your birthday it will be really exciting to find that all out and it will probably make your day feel that much more special.
Good luck with everything!

oh man, sorry to hear that the doctor's office was flakey! that must have been so distressing.

on a side note, i cannot believe the sheer amount of hhs grads that are currently pregnant or parents of infants/toddlers. i am very excited for everyone of those people...but every time i find out about another person, i am just shocked, haha.

hope you guys are well!
