An update on my son's pirate eye!

We went to the Pediatric Opthamalogist and here is the quick run down of the results:
  • Gavin's right eye has the condition known has ptosis. Ptosis is when the muscle to raise and lower the eyelid is slightly longer and weaker than the other eye. Ptosis is also commonly called droopy eyelid.
  • Along with time which can strengthen the muscle, the only real corrective action is surgery. And surgery will only occur around 3 or 4 years of age. Until then time is our only hope.
  • We also learned that Gavin is near sided and only like 5% of babies are. Meaning he can see objects close to him but not far away. And the only corrective action for near-sightedness is glasses which he will have to probably wear when he is 1 or 2. I am going to be a mom of one of those cute kids with glasses!
  • Finally his eyes do not lock on a object as much as the doctor liked. Once his eyes found an object they did not always stay together. This is a side effect of the ptosis that has to be monitored closer. We have to return to the doctor in about a month to check on all his progress.

If it's any consolation, Landon had Ptosis as well, although I'm assuming not as bad as Gavin, and it mostly went away with time. The only time you can tell is in pictures sometimes his one eyelid is slightly droppier than the other due to the flash.
Gavin will be adorable with glasses!

P.S. Landon calls Gavin, "Dabin" - and my mom says to tell you he's absolutely adorable!
