The West Coast

Like others across the country, we decided to officially end the summer at the beach Labor Day weekend. Gratefully though, the summer weather is not over in the beautifully warm state of Florida. To mix things up, we headed west to the Gulf coast and spent the day at Cedar Key. The beach is the size of a soccer field and is somewhat dirty with seaweed, sticks, and other washed up organics from the water. However Cedar Key still had a lot to offer our young family. There is an amazing playground just steps off the sand. The waves are nonexistent except if a boat speeds by creating a wake. And Gavin met a new girlfriend who is 7 years his senior. While sitting comfortably in my orange and blue Gator chair, I realized I should snap some shots to remember the day. Ah, laziness...

The town of Cedar Key looked small and somewhat touristy but still worth a visit some non-beach going day.

Creatures from the Orange and Blue Lagoon.

No waves and a shallow shoreline. Great for toddlers.

Gavin could come and go as he pleased. A quick snack, playground time, sand castle building, water time with dad.

Meanwhile this little guy got to hang out with me under the umbrella. I do believe his skin and my leg appear to be the same color. The jury is still out whether I like that.

Once awake from his nap in the car, Gavin tenderly whispers from the back seat 'miss her' (referring to Annabelle). She actually lives in Gainesville somewhere so we might have to put out a personal ad for her.
