Our big boy woke up on his birthday on cloud nine. When this kid get happy, he gets really happy. He get flustered with excitement and wiggles in his legs. He flashes this little smirk even when he tries not to smile. Gavin smiles with his whole heart and loves life. He lives for a good tickle, game of chase, or a good book to cuddle up with.
Our big boy woke up on his birthday four years old. They celebrated his summer birthday in school at the beginning of May, so I secretly stashed away his crown for his real birthday weeks later. It even traveled the 450 miles south with us to Orlando. He proudly wore it to breakfast at our hotel and was a little surprised how everyone knew his name and age to wish him happy birthday. It was the perfect way to start any birthday.

Of course there have been moments when this kid has tested our parenting skills, but that's part of childhood and we are certainly glad we are part of his. Sean and I were tickling our boys one evening after work on the couch, when we agreed in sentiment that life is pretty great. Being the first, Gavin brought about a new level of happiness into our life four years ago. And each day since he has filled it with laughter and love.
