Ptosis Update: The Day Before the Surgery

This boy is handsome and happy.
This boy is sweet and silly.
And most importantly, this boy is loved.

On Wednesday, Gavin will undergo ptosis correction surgery.  We have been patiently waiting for this day knowing it would happen since his birth and that this surgery would be a good thing.  I have blogged about it before here, here, and here if you wanted to get up to speed.  But in short, ptosis is an eye condition where a weak or elongated muscle cannot pull the eyelid to the natural height.  Gavin was born with ptosis and has favored well so far in his life.

Sean, Gavin, and I drive to northern Atlanta on Wednesday morning where his doctor will help him 'see a little better out of his eye.'  He is now aware of the event and asks questions randomly throughout the day.  He has all the normal, expected concerns for his age about the surgery and mainly it all stems from the unknown.  However his face brightens every time we remind him that both mom and dad will be by him the entire time he is wake.  My heart breaks a little each time that he is so comforted by this fact.  A child's love is so pure and real; and it's the reason parenthood is so worth it.

So whether you are the praying type or not, please send blessings our way.  More for the sake of Sean and I, for we all know Gavin is one tough, little boy.  Wednesday is going to be a big day in our house, but we are grateful for technology and confident in our doctor.  We have got our eye on the future and I'm betting it is going to get better soon.  Pun totally intended!
