Christmas with Grandpa Forbes

We headed north up the east coast for the holiday season and our first stop was Chesapeake, Virginia. Marilyn was so nice to host Christmas for us this year as we spent some time with her and my father. It's amazing how Santa always seems to know just where to deliver your presents every year even when you are not home. Speaking of Santa, I think he outdid himself this year. That man sure knows how to give!

Christmas day was smooth and relaxing, but not without a hiccup on Christmas Eve morning first. Gavin had been running a fever for about a day, so we decided to visit urgent care in hopes of not going Christmas day. Turns out the little guy had a double ear infection. Since we were on vacation, the doctor prescribed the super max five day antibiotic and Gavin woke up 24 hours later a new boy. It was so great to have my curious, active boy back. It was pretty painful to watch him mope about in misery.

Marilyn's son Kevin and his fiancee Amanda joined us Christmas morning to celebrate and eat some breakfast. As I write this, Amanda is laying on a hospital bed about to deliver birth to their son. She was induced earlier this morning and is currently sitting at a 4 cm dilation. But while we were visiting, we were in suspense at every text and phone call thinking 'Amanda's in labor!'

Gavin ripped opened 'the' present from Santa.

Both boys were very excited.

This became a multi-generational toy very quickly.

And where there is building, there is always destruction close behind.

One of my favorites about this stage is watching Gavin's budding imagination.

And you will never meet a happier boy. All smiles that kid.

After the presents were exchanged, the chef assumed his position.

His taste-testers happily did too.

Then the day passed with more train time.

It was a beautiful and blessed day.
